Loving People
There are really special people in this world. Fortunately, I get a chance to connect with as many as I can because I work in restaurants. People who love to eat and drink also love people and conversation and good stories. We have two customers, a husband and wife, who love wine, specifically, big, rich, robust red wine. It is my pleasure to select a bottle when they come in for dinner. There is never disappointment over my selection, just honest feedback. From Spottswoode to Caymus Special Select to Biale Black Chicken to Numanthia, they enjoy them all, sip after sip after sip. Last week, when they came into the restaurant, I poured them a bottle of the Cain Cuvee, a red made from 4 of the Bordeaux varietals that is Cain’s second label. After the first sip, Mr. Wine looked at me and said, “This is a chick wine.” I couldn’t help but laugh. He was absolutely right. It was a chick wine. It was a Bordeaux blend with some weight and some complexity, but it was a slap in the face, not a punch in the throat. Tonight, Mr & Mrs Wine came in for dinner. I couldn’t wait to show him not only was I going to redeem myself from last week’s chick wine recommendation, I was going to knock his socks off with something new, something different, something sensational. Since I am a chick and I like to make sure I come off as super strong, I presented the Blank Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 made by Grace Family. Talk about a powerhouse, a showstopper, a total free-for-all. Incredible isn’t the word, it’s insane. Mr. Wine laughed. We have a wine here that isn’t at all chicky. That’s right, this wine is everything but shootin’ blanks.
